Room Over Garage
This is the "room over garage" in our 10 year old home... we moved here 2 years ago. There was one previous owner who had it finished at some point from new to the sell to us... When it was finished, these "support legs" were dressed up and carpeted around... lovely... My question is --now that I've begun to get ready to paint... can I safely remove them? I believe that they were temporary supports left in place in an unfinished area -- later to be dressed up. Anyone have any thoughts?? Thank you for any input!!!

Re:Room Over Garage
I have never seen anything like that. In my professional opinion those are useless and you should be able to remove them. I cannot think of any reason those are there, except for your theory. Although I must clearly state that since I am not the one who built the room I cannot be certain that there is no use for them. Use this information at your own risk, I assume no responsibility for your actions based on my input.

Re:Room Over Garage
Thank you for your response! I've been thinking a LOT about these !@$# things the past few days -- The recent thought I have is what if they are there to "pull in" the short lower wall? Could they have thought that there was too much pressure exerted on it and these actually pull that wall inward?? Guess I should call a structural engineer... Thanks again!
